1. Principle
Sensory Visionaries aims to provide services fairly, respectfully and without unlawful discrimination. We recognise that people with the same diagnosis or impairment can have very different functional experiences, preferences, cultures, communication methods and priorities.
2. Service delivery
Do not make assumptions about capability solely from diagnosis or registration status. Ask the person what works for them and what needs to change. Consider reasonable adjustments for disabled customers. Use respectful, person-centred language. Review whether standard processes create avoidable barriers.
3. Protected characteristics
We will not unlawfully discriminate in the provision of services on grounds protected by the Equality Act 2010. Where a service is legitimately designed for a particular group, any lawful exception will be applied carefully and proportionately.
4. Concerns
Concerns about discrimination or accessibility can be raised through our Complaints Policy.
5. Reasonable adjustments and accessible communication
We will consider reasonable adjustments so that disabled people can access our information and services as fairly as possible. Adjustments may include changes to communication method, document format, pace, appointment arrangements or the way information is explained, where reasonable and appropriate to the service being provided.
6. Inclusive service decisions
Eligibility for a service, pricing, professional recommendations and decisions about whether work is within scope should be based on relevant and legitimate factors rather than unlawful discrimination. Where we cannot provide a requested service, we will aim to explain the professional, practical or contractual reason.
7. Harassment, victimisation and dignity
We do not accept unlawful harassment or victimisation. Customers, contractors and other people we work with should be treated with dignity and respect. We may set reasonable boundaries around abusive or threatening communication while continuing to consider legitimate accessibility needs and the substance of genuine concerns.
8. Equality information and privacy
We will not collect equality information simply because it may be interesting. Where information about disability, health or another protected characteristic is needed to provide a service or adjustment, it will be handled in accordance with our Privacy and Data Protection Notice. Some information may constitute special category personal data and requires additional protection.
9. Legal framework
This policy is informed by the Equality Act 2010 and its protected characteristics and reasonable adjustment framework. Nothing in this policy reduces a person’s statutory rights.
