1. What we provide
Sensory Visionaries provides specialist practical sight loss support, education, remote assessment, consultancy and organisational sensory practice support within the agreed service description.
2. What we do not provide
Medical diagnosis or treatment. Emergency medical or safeguarding response services. Statutory eligibility decisions. Remote certification that a person is safe for independent outdoor travel. Outdoor orientation and mobility training through the remote service. Hearing assessment or audiological diagnosis. A guarantee that a regulator, commissioner, insurer or other third party will accept a recommendation or reach a particular decision.
3. Remote limitations
Remote work can provide valuable practical support but cannot reproduce every observation available during an in-person visit. We may recommend local or specialist assessment where direct observation, medical assessment, hearing assessment, deafblind expertise, environmental inspection or in-person mobility assessment is needed.
4. Person-centred decision making
Recommendations should be discussed with the person and should take account of their goals, preferences, abilities, environment and informed choices. A recommendation is not automatically appropriate simply because it is commonly used for sight loss.
5. When circumstances change
Advice may need review where vision, hearing, health, cognition, environment, equipment, medication, support arrangements or functional ability changes.
7. Remote-service limitations
Remote work can support assessment, problem solving, education and recommendations, but it cannot reproduce every feature of an in-person environmental or mobility assessment. Advice is based on the information and view available at the time. Where safe decision making requires physical observation, hands-on fitting, clinical examination or another professional discipline, we may recommend a different route.
8. Mobility and cane boundaries
We may provide information about cane types, indoor safety and general decision making within the stated service. We do not provide remote clearance that a person is safe for independent outdoor travel and do not represent remote advice as a substitute for appropriate hands-on orientation and mobility assessment or training where that is required.
9. Equipment and technology
Recommendations about equipment or technology are functional recommendations, not guarantees that a product will suit every person or environment. Availability, compatibility, prices and product specifications can change. Customers should follow manufacturer safety information and seek relevant specialist or clinical advice where necessary.
10. Professional judgement and referral
We may decline, pause, limit or refer work where the request is outside scope, information is insufficient, risk cannot be managed remotely, another professional is better placed to advise, or continuing would create an inappropriate professional relationship. This is a professional boundary rather than an eligibility decision by a statutory authority.
11. No guaranteed outcomes
Rehabilitation recommendations are intended to support practical change, independence and safety, but individual outcomes depend on many factors outside our control. We do not guarantee a particular clinical, regulatory, financial, safeguarding or functional outcome.
12. Relationship with statutory and clinical services
Sensory Visionaries is an independent provider. Unless expressly stated in a particular contract, we do not act on behalf of the NHS, a local authority, CQC, RNIB or another external body. Our reports and recommendations do not replace decisions that another organisation is legally required to make for itself.
