Telling shampoo, conditioner and shower gel apart

When bottles look and feel similar, touch, position and routine can make bathroom products easier to identify.

Five practical ideas

Use touch and consistent positioning instead of relying on labels

1. Use differently shaped bottles

Choose bottles with noticeably different shapes, sizes, textures or profiles so each product can be identified by touch.

2. Create a simple tactile code

If bottles are the same shape, add tactile markers. For example: one elastic band for shampoo, two bands for conditioner and no band for shower gel. Keep the code simple and consistent.

3. Use wall-mounted dispensers

Separate refillable dispensers can give each product a permanent position. For example, shampoo on the left, conditioner in the middle and shower gel on the right.

4. Keep products in the same order

A shelf, shower basket or tray can work well if every product always has its own position. Make sure anyone sharing the bathroom understands the system and puts products back correctly.

5. Use different lids or pumps

Different closures can provide another tactile clue. For example, one product might have a flip-top, another a pump and another a differently shaped cap.
